The design is worked in gold threads and reflects the years spent as a rector in minining communities.

The knot at the centre of the cross motif represents; the intertwining of the earthly and the divine (the human Jesus and divine Christ) and the Celtic influences of the North East tight knit mining communities

Gnarled tree patterns are worked in Jap threads, couched down with gold silk.  They are symbolic of pit props and the wooden cross of Christ.
